My maternal grandfather, Alvin Carpenter (1916-80) was a railroad man. He served as a Milwaukee Road depot agent for many years in southern Wisconsin. Last month I got to ride with him in spirit as my wife and I boarded the Rocky Mountaineer in Vancouver, B.C., for a glorious trip through the Canadian Rockies. Read about it here:
